This week we launched our new kit policy with sustainability and ethical manufacturing now at the core of our kit sourcing and use.
Attached is the full policy, with a summary below;
Sustainable Kit, Sustainable Club.
Team managers are responsible for ensuring their players are appropriately kitted, whether through securing sponsorship for new kit or reusing kit from previous seasons.
Cockerham Junior Football Club actively encourages the reuse of kits for as long as they remain in good condition. Where possible, kits should be handed down to younger age groups rather than replaced annually. This approach supports both financial responsibility and environmental sustainability.
The benefits of this policy include:
a. Cost-efficiency – A full team kit can cost upwards of £1,000 per season. Responsible reuse ensures that sponsor contributions go further.
b. Waste reduction – Kit that is discarded unnecessarily contributes to landfill waste. Reusing kit reduces environmental impact.
c. Club unity and tradition – A consistent kit style passed between age groups reinforces club identity and continuity.
Suppliers:
As part of our commitment to environmental responsibility, Cockerham Junior Football Club promotes the sustainable procurement of kit and equipment wherever possible.
We expect our preferred kit suppliers to operate in line with recognised sustainability standards, including:
• Ethical manufacturing – ensuring fair labour practices and safe working conditions within their supply chain.
• Reduced environmental impact – using eco-friendly materials, low-impact dyes, or recycled fabrics where possible.
• Minimal packaging – favouring recyclable or reduced packaging for deliveries.
